The F-Series VMs are an excellent choice for gaming servers, web servers and batch processing. The F-Series sizes range from one to 16 CPU cores with options for both standard and premium storage optimized sizes. For this series and VM sizes released in the future, the numeric value after the family name letter will match the number of CPU cores. Looking for this information myself, I came across some details in the GitHub repository for the Microsoft Azure Container Service Client, and found this enumeration that contains the supported VM sizes in a python enumeration.

However if you're not using Bash, the list below or updated in the file from the link above can be a good starting point for you to figure out what sizes are available in AKS. Not all VM sizes are available in AKS as of this writing, so the subset below has been extremely helpful in figuring out the best balance for my own setups. Update Updated references in this blog post to an updated list of supported VM Sizes, and updated link to the source code containing the enumeration.
Of course, another trick is to just go to your Azure Portal and see what's available when you create AKS, but it's a lot more cumbersome and it isn't my favorite way to do it since I live in the Azure CLI.
